MIC ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR MALAYSIAN INDIAN
October 17 2006 was a historical day as MIC Economic Bureau together with the Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber
of Commerce & Industry (MAICCI) and YSS launched the Entrepreneur Development Programme for Malaysian Indians.
YB Dato Seri S.Samy Vellu in his speech acknowledged that this was a very positive move to set right the weak
economic position of Malaysian Indians through the 9MP initiatives by Government. The Institute for Entrepreneur Development
(INSKEN) has made a specific allocation to reach 1,000 small and micro business people through a basic awareness programme.
Present at the official launch were some senior members of the Malaysian Indian Congress including most of the
MIC State Chairmen and members of the Central Working Committee. MAICCI was also well represented by its key office bearers.
Tan Sri KS Nijhar the organizing committee chairman indicated that the economic agenda was the next frontier
for the Indian community especially in empowering the community to create wealth in an open market. Mr Pardip Kumar in his
speech acknowledged that the working partnership between political, economic and social groups was essential in ensuring success.
Dato Seri Samy Vellu indicated that he had a personal conversation with the Minister of Entrepreneur Development
who has assured that for 2007 more programmes especially 3 to 5 day courses will be organized and funded.
All present acknowledged that the key dimension is the financial empowerment and opportunities created for those
especially at the bottom 30% to enlarge their income through micro businesses.
Owning a business is probably one of the most fulfilling ways to make a living. This is especially
true in a country like Malaysia where prosperity is enjoyed by a large percentage of its citizen. With its flourishing economy,
running businesses in this country can be extremely rewarding.
